Roberta Walker

Roberta Walker passed on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Although New York City ran through her veins, Roberta lived her final years in Wilmington, Delaware where her only daughter Donnae Smith resides. Roberta’s son, Alan Carr Smith Jr., predeceased her. Roberta died at 85 years old. She is survived by her daughter Donnae and her four grandchildren Alan Carr Smith III, Lorin Jackson, Brion Jackson, and Brenda LaMotta. Her siblings, brothers James Gilchrist and Alfred Williams both of whom predeceased her, youngest brother Ronald Williams; sister Jean White; her nephews Alfred Williams Jr., Ronald John Williams, and Daniel Williams, who predeceased her; and nieces Lisa Janine White, Princess Gladys Williams and, niece Jeannie Williams who predeceased her. Roberta had a challenging and rewarding career serving the greater good as a social worker in New York City after which she was eventually able to retire. She supported people from vulnerable populations in her work, including those impacted by HIV/AIDS and survivors of intimate partner violence. Roberta achieved her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University in the Bronx and attended Lehman College, City University New York, for her undergraduate degree. Roberta was passionate about helping others. Also, she had a witty, sometimes silly, sense of humor. With her birthday on August 8, 1937, Roberta grabbed the attention of all when she entered a room, as any true Leo. She was known for her fashion sense, which showed big New York City style and flair. She thoroughly enjoyed being the life of the party and often was, especially when she went out salsa dancing in her early twenties. An avid television and movie watcher, Roberta enjoyed following her favorite shows or re-watching her favorite films. The funeral will be held on Monday, December 12 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at Van Tassel Funeral home in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She will be buried at Glendale Cemetery, also in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
