Clarence Eddy

June 13, 1930 - February 16, 2022

Clarence Lyles Eddy, 91 of Orange NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 16, 2022. Clarence is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Gwendolyn Eddy (nee Christian, retired teacher), son Stephen, daughter Kristen, sister Yvonne Zachery and grandson Ari Montanez. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Cornelia Eady, and his brother Jessie Jackson. Clarence graduated from Hampton Institute (University) in Virginia in 1952 with B.A. Business Administration, and received a Master Degree in Rehabilitation from Seton Hall University in 1971. He received a Certificate from the NY Society for Deaf. Clarence worked for the State of New Jersey, Dept. of Labor, Div. of Voc. Rehab as Rehabilitation Supervisor for over 32 years retiring in 1991. Clarence also worked part time as a Bookkeeper at a funeral home and volunteered at VA Hospital in East Orange. He was a dedicated member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, church Choir and Men’s Club in Bloomfield NJ. Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Army, March 1948 for three years but President Harry S. Truman extended one more year to 1952 (Korean Conflict); rank Staff Sgt., honorably discharged in 1952 with Occupational Medal (Japan), Good Conduct Medal and Korean Service Medal. Clarence enjoyed playing piano, singing in the choir, skiing, taking pictures, and traveling. He also knew American Sign Language and spoke Japanese. Clarence will be greatly missed by his family, friends and church family. Visitation: February 22, 2022 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, St. John’s Lutheran Church, 216 Liberty Street, Bloomfield NJ, Funeral Service at 11:00 AM followed by Interment at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ.
